Nao Kanzaki is honest to a fault. Uncorrupted and virtuous, Nao is the perfect target for a large-scale scheme—the so-called Liar Game. Suddenly in possession of one hundred million yen, she is expected to steal the same amount from her assigned opponent—her former middle school teacher—or face crushing debt. Trusting her teacher without question, Nao quickly realizes that she is trapped. To gain an advantage, Nao comes in contact with Shinichi Akiyama, a brilliant con artist just released from prison. Though Akiyama has no real reason to help the naive girl, he ends up aiding her victory. However, driven by her unwavering sense of justice, Nao chooses to continue into the next round, and Akiyama, unwilling to leave her to fail, joins her. In the Liar Game, participants are expected and required to deceive, manipulate, and betray or be buried in lifelong debt. Yet Nao, with the help of Akiyama's genius, is determined to beat the game without abandoning her morals and prove that generosity and sincerity will always prevail.

This omnibus adolescent drama is about a group of young girls who all attend a girls-only musical school, recounting the formative years they shared, at times shifting between different characters' viewpoints and time. Awajima Musical School Training Camp, dubbed the boarding house, is where young girls gather from all over Japan to perform on stage. Tabata Wakana aspires to be a musical star; housemaster Takehara Kinue attends to carry on her best friend's wishes; beautiful Okabe Emi is a scholarship student who is always at the center of attention; and Ibuki Katsurako, who became a teacher at the school though originally from a family of actresses. The unique environment of the musical school is simultaneously a respite space for these aspiring girls and also a harsh battleground that pits young students against each other. It is a place where perseverance can lead to blossoming talents, but also to a cruel reality at times. Ambitious participants who challenge the notorious exam carry their own reason. What drives 12-year-old Gon Freecss is finding Ging, his father and a Hunter himself. Believing that he will meet his father by becoming a Hunter, Gon takes the first step to walk the same path. During the Hunter Examination, Gon befriends the medical student Leorio Paladiknight, the vindictive Kurapika, and ex-assassin Killua Zoldyck. While their motives vastly differ from each other, they band together for a common goal and begin to venture into a perilous world.
