Virtual Reality and the arrival of Circlet Technology has changed people's lives. A new competitive electronic sport called Circlet Bout emerges, and schools duel to determine the strongest Circlet Bout Club and player. One day, Yuuka Sasaki gets mistaken for a challenger and battles against Chikage Fujimura, the best player in Japan, tying the intense fight despite her inexperience. These events lead to her passion for the sport, deciding to become a Circlet Bout player. Two years later, Yuuka moves to Tokyo and enrolls in Union School, a place where she can practice and pursue her dream of fighting Chikage again. After her arrival at the Union School, she discovers the club closed. Now her first goal is to help the athletic Miyuki Kasahara and club manager Ayumu Aizawa reopen Union's Circle Bout Club and return it to its former glory.

It has been five years since AI Kizuna disappeared from the virtual world. Despite being an AI, she has captured the hearts of her fans, including Miracle, an aspiring virtual artist, with her performances. As Miracle attends ADEN Academy, a school for virtual artists, she makes new friends while learning more about singing, performing, and streaming. Miracle's ultimate goal is to win the prestigious Lapin d'Or at the Virtual Grid Awards, an achievement Kizuna has earned five consecutive times. To do this, she works to improve her channel ranking through streams and performances, trying to stand out among other students at the academy. Determined to fulfill her dream of inspiring others the same way Kizuna inspired her, the budding star will not give up.

Tomorou Tenma possesses a uniquely strong e-Pulse—the energy created by human thoughts and emotions that powers egg-shaped AI devices named Sapotama. The world's everyday life relies on the assistance of Sapotamas, but the force of Tomorou's e-Pulse often causes glitches in them. One night, a strange creature calling itself Gekkoumon emerges from his device and insists on eating Tomorou's e-Pulse. Gekkoumon is a Digimon, a creature feeding on e-Pulse that was born from an error in Sapotamas. Some Digimon completely drain humans of their energy, leaving them in a comatose state known as Cold Heart. When Tomorou's older brother, Asuka, becomes a victim of this phenomenon, Tomorou vows to avenge him. Tomorou meets a group of Digimon-wielders called Glowing Dawn, who hunt down rogue Digimon for bounties. Their leader, Kyou Sawashiro, explains that there might still be hope for Asuka's recovery. Although Tomorou struggles to trust these strangers, he decides to join them, as he realizes that saving his brother may not be achievable on his own.
